Annual survey on future trends in communication management and public relations

European Communication Monitor 2011 - some of the insights are:

– Power of communication departments: 60% report directly to the CEO, but horizontal power is often low
- Role enactment and decision making: European professionals are risk-averse, compared to US counterparts

- Credibility of public relations: 42% say that the term 'PR' is discredited, new concepts are favoured

- ROI of communication: Many use the term, but basic knowledge about this economic concept is often missing

- Social media: Governance structures are underdeveloped, as well as skills needed for interactive media
- Future qualification: A large gap prevails between training needs and programs offered by organisations

- Salaries: More professionals have entered the top ranks, but the low-paid cluster is also growing
